Secret Map Under the School

The school on Moon Street was one of those that looked quite ordinary from the outside. But for two friends, Tosia and Igor, nothing was as it seemed. They both loved surprises, riddles and mysteries, and the school building from a hundred years ago seemed to hide quite a few of them. It all started on Monday, just before a maths lesson. Igor noticed that one of the wooden boards in the classroom on the ground floor was loose. - Look, Tosia! - he whispered, pointing with his finger. Tosia squatted down quickly next to him and they tried to lever the board together. Under the board they found an old, wrapped up roll. It was a map, written in faded ink and full of strange signs. There was a drawing of their school in the middle, and something resembling a maze underneath the building. Tosia was excited: - This looks like a secret basement plan! - she whispered. Igor nodded, his eyes shining with excitement. After lessons, they returned to an empty classroom and then snuck down to the basement, keeping the map close to them. The basement corridors were long and dark, smelling of dust and secrets from long ago. The clues on the map led them deeper until they came across an iron door they had never seen here before. The door was locked with a large, rusty padlock. Underneath them, however, someone had pressed an old brass handle. Tosia lifted it carefully. Then a barely audible whisper sounded in the corridor, and the door began to slowly open....
