A Night at the Circus of Wandering Stars

As soon as the colourful posters saying "Circus of the Wandering Stars" appeared in the town, Lena, Olek and Maks literally could not sit still. Each of them had already seen a circus show, but the poster promised something completely different: lanterns flying in the air, lions with silver mane and an illusionist whose tricks are supposedly impossible to explain.
A large, striped tent stood on the edge of the town, where the grass grew higher than knee-high and owls could be heard hooting in the night. That evening, as the sun set, the three friends stood at the entrance, feeling their hearts beating faster with each passing minute. Inside, the air smelled of popcorn, candyfloss and something else - like dust, like magic.
When the trumpet sounded, silence fell and the lights flickered to the centre of the arena. First came the trainer with the shining lions, who performed such difficult tricks that the children pinched each other's arms to see if it was really happening. Then a juggler entered the arena, tossing not only balls into the air, but also... illuminated jars with real skylights.
At one point, the presenter announced: "It's time for the grand finale!". Hundreds of lanterns were lit and an elegant gentleman in a black tailcoat and tall hat appeared in the centre of the arena. It was Mr Magni - the magician about whom legends had already circulated. Lena, Olek and Maks held hands. Can he really make something disappear forever? Can cylinder rabbits talk?
When Mr Magni waved his wand and asked for a volunteer from the audience, the spotlight stopped.... Right on the three friends! Everyone looked at them with curiosity. Mr Magni invited the children into the arena and whispered: "Are you ready for something you haven't seen before?" The children nodded, and then... the magician raised his hand and sparkling snakes of light began to whirl above their heads, and colourful tunnels opened up beneath their feet, from which came mysterious whispers and laughter.
Suddenly the lights went out and everything was plunged into darkness. Lena felt someone squeeze her hand tighter. In that one second, she had the feeling that there was something hidden beneath the arena that did not belong to the ordinary world....
