Apolonia Grandmother Clock

Leon always loved holidays at his grandmother Apolonia's house. Her old house smelled of yeast, and there were real treasures to be found in the attic. This summer, he was joined by Lena, his cousin, whom he called Lena-ciekawska. Grandma, smiling mysteriously, said: "Don't forget my clock! Who knows, maybe it will still surprise you." The clock had hung in the living room forever, ticking proudly on a wall covered with rose wallpaper. It was big, with carved doors and golden numerals. As soon as Grandma went into the kitchen, Lena poked Leon: - Come on, let's open it! Maybe she hid some gingerbread in there? Leon wasn't sure, but the fear of searching in vain soon lost out to curiosity. They opened the door of the clock and saw something they hadn't expected. Inside, small, colourful cogs glittered, and between them they could see a small lever flashing with blue light. - This... I don't think this used to be there - whispered Lena. Leon, with his heart beating like crazy, touched the lever. Then the whole room lit up with a blue glow, and there was a strange noise all around, as if hundreds of clocks were ticking simultaneously. The clock began to revolve around them. Suddenly they felt as if they were falling, and the world around them swirled with colours and lights. When everything finally quietened down, they opened their eyes. They were standing in the middle of a dense forest, full of large ferns, and over their heads flew something that looked like.... a pterodactyl. Lena grabbed Leon's hand. - Where are we? There was a mighty roar in the distance, the ground trembled slightly. Leon looked at the clock, which he now held in his hand like a regular alarm clock. The digits on the dial jumped by themselves. Before them, something golden and mysterious shimmered among the leaves....
