Circus Night Under the Star Tent

Clare loved the circus from the first show she saw. That's why, when the colourful wagon of the Phantasmagoria Circus stood in the town square, she couldn't sit still. She was twelve years old and even her younger brother Franek, though feigning indifference, glanced in the direction of the circus carts set up just under the star-spangled tent.
The queue to enter was already winding its way across half the square. The smell of roasting popcorn, candyfloss and animals was in the air. Klara was clutching her ticket so tightly that she almost crumpled it. Franek walked along singing under his breath a snippet of the circus song that was flying from the speakers above the entrance.
It was cool and dark inside the tent, the lights shining only on the circular arena. The show began with daring acrobatics on the trapeze and flights through hoops. Clowns juggled and tumbled around to the delight of the little ones. But the most exciting part was the appearance of the magician, Mr Leander. He looked as if he was over a hundred years old and wore a giant cylinder, which was said to hold many surprises.
During his performance, something unusual happened. When Mr Leandro threw a handful of glitter dust into the air, the lights went out for a split second. When it came back on, a girl in a pale pink outfit appeared in the arena. Her hair was braided into two long pigtails and her eyes were wide open. She looked around surprised and then quickly ran behind the curtain, leaving all the spectators stunned.
Clare looked questioningly at Frank. "Did you see that?" - she whispered. Frank just nodded his head. After a moment, a quiet whisper reached their ears: "Help me..."
When the show was over and the audience began to leave the tent, Clare and Frank couldn't stop thinking about the unexpected girl. They slipped out unnoticed from behind the curtain leading to the section not open to visitors. Here, among the circus carriages, twilight reigned and the silver curtains swayed in the light breeze. Suddenly they saw a glow shimmering from under one of the trailers. Someone was there! Clare squeezed Frank's brotherly hand and they cautiously walked closer, trying not to make a sound....
