Clare has always dreamt of seeing a real circus. Not the usual kind, where a clown throws a cake at the manager, but a circus full of magic, lights and amazing tricks. One summer afternoon she found an invitation in her letterbox: "Circus Under the Stars invites you to a night full of wonder! We take off tonight at 8pm in the old meadow outside the city. Admission is free, but you have to believe in extraordinary things!" She knew she had to go there. And she knew who to take - her best friend, Tymek. Tymek loved animals and had ten hamsters, two rabbits and a hedgehog. He also believed that every story begins with one bold step. At 7:45 p.m., with torches and sandwiches in their backpacks, they quietly slipped out of their homes. When they reached the meadow, they saw something amazing. Amidst the tall grasses stood a huge, glittering tent in blue and gold stars. The smell of popcorn and candyfloss wafted around, and the air reverberated with music, as if played by an orchestra of jays and crickets. At the entrance they were greeted by a white llama in a cylinder. She bowed and spoke in an absolutely human voice: "Invitation, please!" Klara and Tymek's eyes bugged out, but they showed the card. The llama waved a hoof at them and pointed to the entrance. There was hustle and bustle inside, and things were happening in the arena that they hadn't even seen on TV. A tiger was walking a tightrope, a bear was juggling three umbrellas and an owl was telling the future from popcorn. - Anything is possible here, isn't it? - whispered Klara. - Probably even what we can't imagine - replied Tymek. Suddenly the lights dimmed. The circus director - a peculiar gentleman with a moustache twisted like a pretzel - climbed onto the platform. His tailcoat shimmered as if it had been fashioned from shooting stars. - Dear spectators! - he called out. - Here is a special number! Who dares to cross the threshold of this curtain and join our shows? We need someone who believes in the impossible. Several boys came forward, one girl in a green scarf.... but the director's gaze stopped on Klara and Tymek. - How about you two? - He asked, pointing to them in the midst of the crowd. Not yet knowing what awaited them, they moved slowly behind the director towards the backstage area. Behind the thick golden curtain, the world looked completely different: the sun shone even after dark, and huge bubbles, the size of footballs, floated in the air. Acrobatic cats in tailcoats flitted among them, and suddenly.... A strange scrabbling sounded from a dark corner. Klara and Tymek stopped, trying to see what was hiding there. Then one of the bubbles unexpectedly burst, spilling thousands of coloured lights around them. From the depths of the circus backroom, a huge, shadowy silhouette began to emerge, which they could not yet recognise....
