The Magic Hat School was no ordinary school. Firstly, instead of the bell ringing, lessons began with the loud sneezing of the headmaster's yellow parrot. Secondly, each pupil was assigned an unusual hat - and not an ordinary one, as each had his own character and sometimes even a mood worse than Monday's alarm clock. Basia loved her hat - green, with yellow peas and a feather that turned up on its own when someone said something funny. Kuba, her best friend, wore a tall blue cylinder that changed size every day. Sometimes it was so big that Cuba couldn't see half the world, and other times it was so tiny that it barely covered his ear. One Monday, after a very funny maths lesson (in which the numbers tried to leave the notebooks through the window), Basia and Kuba noticed something unusual. There was a terrible commotion in the corridor, with hats jumping from head to head, fluttering, singing opera arias and laughing to tears. Even the director of the Goblin walked around with a look on his face as if he had drunk lemon juice instead of coffee. Professor Klaps' hat - the oldest, strangest and most moody of all - turned out to be missing. "Without this hat, there will be no Laughing Hat Festival today!" - despaired Professor Klaps, spinning in circles with his head empty. Basia looked at Cuba and Cuba looked at Basia. They knew they had to go on a search. But where to look for a hat that can turn into a balloon or hide behind a veil of invisibility? Suddenly, they heard a strange scrabbling coming from behind the door of the old cloakroom, which, as we know, no one uses because the ghost of a very offended hat is said to live there. Basia took the first step and her hat rustled excitedly. Cuba squeezed his cylinder tighter, which immediately grew to the size of a bucket. They opened the creaking door and.... they saw a flash of light and something they had not expected at all....
