Grandma Jadzia's Magic Umbrella

Grandma Jadzia's Magic Umbrella
Maja had always found rainy days terribly boring. Sitting at home and looking out of the window at the grey drops trickling down the glass was not one of her favourite activities. But on this day, everything was about to change. From the kitchen came the smell of fresh bread. Grandma Jadzia, always cheerful and smiling, was preparing breakfast and Filip - Maia's younger brother - was playing with toy cars on the carpet. Suddenly there was a rumbling. It was thunder and then a downpour. - 'It's a good thing we have the day off,' rejoiced Filip, pressing his nose against the glass. Maja sighed. She opened the old door to the hallway to reach for a book when her gaze was caught by Grandma Jadzia's colourful umbrella standing in the corner. Grandma mused for a moment, then said: - This umbrella makes even the cloudiest day an adventure. If you are brave, you can try it. Maja grasped the handle of the umbrella. It was cool but pleasant to the touch. They both opened the umbrella, feeling the light breeze brush against their cheeks. Even though they were indoors, they suddenly heard birds chirping and felt a gentle, warm breeze. The carpet beneath their feet turned into soft, green grass, and instead of walls there were colourful trees and a twinkling sun. Philip looked at his sister with wide eyes. - Where are we? Maja shook her head in disbelief. Right at their feet squatted a small, chatty frog in a hat. - Welcome to the Garden of Interwoven Wonders - she laughed. In the distance, they heard someone's footsteps - very quiet, but fast. Someone or something was approaching between the flowers, and the umbrella was beginning to tremble slightly in their hands.... At that moment, a louder rustling sounded, and someone's shiny lantern slipped out of the thicket....
