Granny Stefania's Secret Cupboard

Konrad loved his visits to his grandmother Stefania's house. The old house under the forest was full of nooks and crannies and strange objects from the past. But the biggest secret was hidden by the wooden sideboard in the dining room. Maja, his older sister, always whispered that little creatures of the imagination lived inside. Konrad laughed at these stories - to this day.
That day, his grandmother asked them to help prepare dinner. As Maja searched for napkins, she came across a small silver key lying in a cupboard drawer. The key shimmered like a soap bubble, although the light was already dim. - See! - whispered an excited Maja. - Maybe it's for that little box downstairs?
Konrad twitched - he had never noticed that there was a hidden compartment underneath. She gently slid the key in, and then something creaked. The door swung open and the boy looked inside. Inside lay a red-bound book and a sphere that glowed, although there was no light bulb.
Suddenly, a soft, melodious whisper came from inside the cupboard: "Don't be afraid... Come on in..." The border of the compartment began to widen like the entrance to another room. Maja grabbed Konrad's hand. They both took a deep breath and slipped inside when suddenly everything around them was immersed in swirling colours and a door slammed shut behind them. A mysterious world appeared before them, full of floating islands and strange creatures that watched the children with curiosity.
At the same moment that they took their first step into the colourful space, a loud crack sounded from the cupboard and a silver key flashed in Konrad's hands. Would they have time to return before the passage closed forever?
