Lena and the Vanishing Shadows

Lena lived in a quiet little town called Sunshine Valley, where everyone knew everyone else and the biggest secret was the recipes for homemade cakes. But everything changed one autumn evening when Lena, walking home after school, noticed something strange on the wall of an old building - her shadow was smiling wider at her than she was! For a moment she thought it was just an illusion, but when she waved her hand, the shadow waved both hands.
The next day, everything seemed normal. But Lena couldn't stop thinking about it. After school she went to her pack: Tom, who always carried a mini compass in his pocket, and Martina, a puzzle lover. She told them about the strange shadow. - 'We need to check it out,' said Tom with a glint in his eye.
Under the cover of evening, the three of them went back under the old building. Lena stood exactly where she had stood the day before. The moon shone brightly and their shadows stretched out on the wall. Lena concentrated, imagined her shadow tying a scarf. Suddenly... her shadow really did it! Martina dropped the torch all the way down from the sensation.
- You control the shadows! - whispered Tom, looking sideways. Lena felt as if something inside her was coming to life.
Suddenly, from around the corner of the alley, a strange rustling sound came to them. The shadows around them began to lengthen and swirl in all sorts of directions, as if someone else was trying to control them too. Lena felt a chill down her spine. Was she the only person with abilities, or was someone else, somewhere in the darkness, watching them...?
