Mystery of the Green Corridor

Ola and Stasio's school was old and creaky, but perfectly ordinary - at least that's what they thought, until something really strange happened.
One rainy Tuesday, with the wind rustling the branches of the trees outside the window, the history lady had to interrupt her lesson. Someone had left their belongings in a room at the end of a long green corridor, which the pupils did not usually look into. Ola and Staś volunteered to bring them back.
As soon as they entered the green corridor, they felt uncomfortable. The walls were covered in a light mist and the echo of their footsteps was strangely loud. Staś glanced at Ola, trying not to show fear.
- Can you see it? - whispered Ola, pointing to the door at the end of the corridor. They had never seen them here before. They were old, with a large golden handle and an inscription that couldn't quite be read through the cobwebs.
Suddenly, from behind the door, they heard quiet sobbing and soft sobbing. Ola squeezed Stasio's hand. Their hearts began to beat faster. They wondered if they should go in.
- Maybe someone needs help... - said Staś, although he wasn't sure himself.
They both felt a mixture of fear, curiosity and excitement. Their emotions were so strong that it was difficult to catch their breath. They took a step forward, and the handle itself began to slowly drop downwards....
