Mystery of the Green House

Mystery of the Green House
Staszek had never believed in any ghosts, but when Zosia, his younger sister, challenged him to a trip to the Green House, he wasn't about to back down. The old wooden building had haunted the children of their village for years, and the adults always told them not to go near it. But who would listen to adults when curiosity is stronger than fear? It was early August, and the air smelled of strawberries and cut grass. Staszek and Zosia walked through the tall grass, picking their way through the cobwebs. The Green House loomed in the distance, wrapped in ivy and the shade of old trees. As they got closer, they felt as if someone was watching them. "It's probably an owl," Staszek said, trying to hide the fact that his heart was beating faster. The door was barely ajar. Zosia crossed the threshold first, quiet as a cat. Staszek followed her, trying not to step on the creaking floor. Inside there was semi-darkness. The dust floating in the air danced in the sunlight coming through the dusty window. "Staszek, look!" - whispered Zosia. There was an old map lying on the floor. It was ragged and shone a little as if someone had recently touched it. The map showed their village, but in the place of the Green House there was a strange sign drawn - resembling an eye surrounded by seven stars. Zosia reached for the map when suddenly a quiet knocking sounded from behind the wall. Three short, one long. A knock ... And a whisper, as if someone was saying their names. Staszek looked at Zosia. They were both too frightened to retreat, but even more curious to find out what was behind the mysterious sound. The knocking repeated itself - louder this time. Staszek picked up the map and slowly, together with Zosia, they began to approach the dusty wooden wall behind which they thought something was waiting. Suddenly, the wall moved as if on its hinges and revealed a narrow, dark passage. There was a chill blowing from inside. Should they go inside?
