Mila was a young red fox who lived with her family in the hollow of an old oak tree, right in the middle of the Green Forest. The forest was huge and the trees so tall that even the bravest squirrel could not see the end of them. At night, the singing of owls and the rustling of muskrats echoed among the leaves, and the moon looked like a silver coin suspended in the sky. Most young foxes preferred to sleep safely next to their parents, but Mila was different. Her nose was always pointed upwards and her eyes sparkled with curiosity. One evening, as the forest slowly plunged into the dark blue twilight, Mila decided: "I'm not going to sleep tonight! I want to see what happens in the forest after dark." Silently as a shadow she slipped out of the mink. She walked under the vines, dodged the forest berries, until she came to a place she had never been before - the Old Glade, which the forest elders avoided by a wide margin. There were strange stones overgrown with moss, and from the depths of the clearing came a quiet, steady rumble that resembled the beating of a large heart. Mila crouched in the grass, listening. Her eyes flared among the ferns watching her - was it just a badger, or was it someone else? The vixen felt a thrill of excitement. A luminous figure slowly began to emerge in front of her.... It had the shape of an animal, but its fur shone like stars. She got close enough to Mila that she could smell the damp earth and.... shimmering air? Mila wasn't sure if it was a dream or reality. Suddenly, the clearing shook with the echo of a mysterious, deep sound. A luminous figure turned its head towards the forest, and Mila felt her heart beat faster.
