Primary School No. 7 in Miastko was no ordinary school. Or at least that was what Zuzka claimed, who always looked for adventures where others saw only boredom. One Monday morning, during the break, Zuzka, together with her friends Tomek, Nela and Filip, discovered something really strange. In the bathroom by the gymnasium, a whole new tube of school toothpaste had disappeared! This was the third one this week. ‘This can’t be a coincidence!’ whispered Tomek, looking around to see if anyone was eavesdropping. ‘Someone is stealing toothpaste!’ Their school had a special health programme, and pupils had to brush their teeth after PE lessons. However, lately everyone was running out of toothpaste at an express pace. Nela suspected that this was the work of the younger classes, who mistook the toothpaste for glue. Filip, on the other hand, had a different theory. ‘Or maybe it’s… Shepherd?’ he whispered mysteriously, recalling the legend of the ghost who took paste to the Night of Whispers. Zuzka rolled her eyes, but immediately froze. A strange, blurred silhouette was reflected in the mirror. Was it a shadow, or was it someone sneaking around? After lessons, the friends decided to stay in school longer. Supplied with torches and their own spare pastes, they hid in the cloakroom and waited. As the clock struck nine, the lights began to flash. They heard rustling coming from the bathroom. ‘I think it’s him… or it!’ Nela swallowed. In silence, they approached the door. Suddenly they heard the sound of teeth grinding and a quiet, giggling voice: ‘Sweet decay, just one more tube…’ Zuzka raised her torch, ready to shine it straight into the mystery, but before they could open the door, something or someone banged on the handle from inside.
