The Lost Compass of the Shadowlands

The Lost Compass of the Shadowlands
While everyone in the town slept, Pola lay in bed and stared at the ceiling illuminated by a streak of moonlight. Her younger brother Leon slept restlessly, turning over on his stomach. It was a June evening, and the window open wide let the scent of wild roses and forest moss into the room. The next day, as soon as the sun peeked out from behind the trees, Pola woke Leon with a covert poke. "Come and see!" - she whispered, showing him a piece of old parchment she had found in her great-grandfather's attic. Among the mysterious signs and drawings, the children spotted a plan of their own town and something that looked like a hidden path leading to the Elm Thicket - a long-forgotten part of the forest. A sound came from deep in the air - it was both a melody and a whisper. As the children began to walk towards the sound, paths of blue stones lit up beneath their feet. Leon tried to write down the signs that flashed under their feet, but they blurred every time he tried to remember them. Suddenly, a figure emerged from behind the nearest tree. She was tall, wearing a cloak of leaves, and her eyes shone like two lanterns in a storm. In one hand she held a golden key and in the other a a compass just like the one found by the giant's tree. Pola and Leon walked closer, feeling the air around them thicken. The figure nodded at them and whispered: "You have come for what was lost. But are you ready to move on?" At that moment, the ground began to tremble slightly, and a light flashed above the children's heads....
