The Mystery Behind the Door from the Light

Maja squeezed carefully through the gap in the heavy metal door leading to the basement of the old school. She was accompanied by Kacper - her best friend and, as he liked to say himself, a self-proclaimed master adventurer tracker. Around them, the air was cool and smelled of dust and something else completely unknown. Kacper sent her a nervous smile. - 'Relax, no one's caught us here yet,' he whispered, glancing over his shoulder at the corridor. Maja knelt by the floor and began to examine an old map they had found in the library. According to it, there was supposed to be "something hidden" somewhere in here. Suddenly, Kacper pushed her slightly to the side. - Check it out! - he hissed excitedly. Against the wall, behind a pile of crates, something was faintly glowing white-blue. They carefully pushed the crates away. Then an old, rusty door, which none of the teachers could remember, appeared to their eyes. But the strange thing was that light was seeping from their gaps - as if someone had lit up the whole room from behind them. - Maybe there are new computers in there, or a robotics room! - whispered Kacper. But Maja knew that ordinary technology didn't make such a strange sound: it hummed quietly, as if the air outside the door vibrated with a different tune to the one they were used to. - 'Let's check it out,' she decided before she had time to think. Together they grabbed the cold handle. As the door swung open, light spilled across the basement like mist, and the strange sound suddenly quieted. From behind the door, there was no view of the school walls, just something that looked like a colourful whirlpool, full of flying leaves and pollen shining like stars. Maja took the first step and felt as if the ground beneath her feet had disappeared. Kacper grabbed her hand. At the last moment they only managed to look at each other in disbelief before the portal began to pull them in....
