The Saga of the Lost Island of Storms

The Saga of the Lost Island of Storms
On the northern fringes of old Norway, where the waves crash against the rocky shores and the wind wheezes like the tales of the ancient gods, lay the village of Thorshavn. In this village lived Astrid, a girl with dishevelled red hair whose curiosity knew no bounds. Her best friend was Leif, the blacksmith's son, known for always carrying a carved dragon figurine with him. One evening, as the sky darkened and the wind carried with it salt and cold from the sea, the whole village gathered around a bonfire on the quay. Amid the crackling flames, the aged skald Brynhild began to tell the story of the Lost Island of Storms. "They say it only appears when the greatest storm lights up the sky and the sea begins to sing the songs of the ancestors. There waits that which no one has yet found." The next day, Astrid and Leif couldn't stop thinking about the island. While everyone was busy repairing the boat after the night's gale, the friends slipped outside the village boundary, dragging behind them an old, decayed oar and a map drawn on a piece of leather. - "Let's sail," whispered Astrid, "we must see it with our own eyes." They found an old boat in the harbour, tucked behind the nets. The waves were skimming and the sky was beginning to darken again. They took the oars, pulled the boat into the water and set off towards the open sea, laughing and shouting as if they were fearless warriors. The sea around them became increasingly restless. Raindrops began to fall and the waves hit the sides of the boat with increasing force. Suddenly, a light shimmered over the horizon - a flash that lit the water silver. Ahead of them, amidst the foam and mist, the outlines of something that resembled the shore of an island began to be drawn. The boat swayed dangerously, and the wind howled as if it wanted to turn them back. Then Astrid noticed something shimmering on the beach in the distance - a circle of stone, as it were, and in the middle of it the silhouette of a figure lifting something up. Was it someone waiting for them, or was it an illusion? Leif grabbed her arm. - "Astrid, do you see it?" Their boat was getting closer and closer, and the island was becoming clearer. The sea around the boat began to swirl, as if an underwater tunnel was opening up. A loud, dragging song pierced the air. Astrid and Leif exchanged glances full of excitement and fear, not knowing what they would find once they came to shore....
