Julka never thought that an ordinary afternoon could become the start of a great adventure. Together with Maks, her younger brother, they were sneaking through the fallen rows of old books in the library of Mr Grodzisz, a strange neighbour with a long grey beard who was always whispering something to his plants on the windowsill. It was raining that day, so the children hoped that the library hid something more interesting than just dust and spiders. Deep in the room, between the bookcases, Julka noticed something unusual - a tiny, moving pillar of light, as if a torch-light was trying to show them something. When they got closer, a leather-bound book with strange markings on the cover appeared to their eyes. Next to it lay a curved key branch. - 'Look, I think someone forgot something here,' whispered Maks and touched the book. At the same moment, the light flashed more strongly and the air was filled with the smell of old parchment and something sweet, like cotton candy. Julka lifted the cover. The pages were written in a moving script that seemed to form words before their eyes: "Only the brave can know the secret of the Misty Forest." Maks looked at his sister with wide eyes: - Do you think this is a joke? But then silver dust rose from the centre of the book and began to swirl around them. There was silence - until a quiet creaking sound came from somewhere in the shadows of the bookcases as if someone or something was approaching slowly towards them.
