It was a quiet Martian night as Veronica, Igor and Lena sat in the observatory, watching the pink sky through the window. They lived in the Quartz colony, the largest human base on Mars. Every day here was full of learning, fun and.... a bit of boredom, because there wasn't always something going on on the Red Planet. However, today was going to be different. Veronica was the first to notice that the computer was picking up strange signals coming from the Quartz North Station - a place that had been closed down after a mysterious accident two years ago. Igor zoomed in on the screen. The signal seemed to repeat every few minutes. - 'Do you think there's someone there? - whispered Lena, looking uncertainly at Veronika. - 'There shouldn't be anyone there,' replied Veronika. - 'But maybe it's an automaton or something's broken? Intrigued, they decided to investigate for themselves. They searched the base maps for a service tunnel that led towards the abandoned station. They took with them torches, communicators and, just in case, Igor's mascot, Cosmik, a robot penguin who always had great ideas. As they dashed through the dark tunnel, they heard a quiet buzz. The light of the torch reflected off some shiny object on the ground. Lena picked it up and saw a piece of glass with a strange symbol on it. Holding it tightly, the friends went deeper into the tunnel. Eventually they reached the station door. Behind the glass flicked a blue light that shouldn't have been there. As Veronica raised her hand and pressed the button that opened the door, there was a dragging, metallic sound. The door slowly began to slide open, and suddenly a mysterious voice came from inside the station: - Please come in. I have been waiting for you... The friends looked after each other with wide-open eyes, their hearts beating faster than ever. What would they find inside? Who was the being who had called them?
