In a valley, where the mists danced between the oaks in the morning, lay the village of Bjørnhavn. The inhabitants were Vikings who loved stories of faraway journeys and great adventures. However, every child knew that the greatest stories were born in their own backyard. Erik, Solveig and their younger cousin Knut were just getting ready for a trip beyond the village boundary. For that day Erik found something very strange on the riverbank: a piece of wood decorated with an engraved wolf, so precise that it looked like a living thing. They were sure they had never seen such a symbol in the area before. - 'Surely someone has been here before us,' whispered Solveig, who always wanted to know more about the valley's past. Knut, brave though the youngest, was already putting on a leather bag full of nuts and pieces of dried apples, ready for any adventure. They were already walking towards the forest when Erik stopped and looked at his friends: - If we find more signs like this, we might find out who was here before us. Maybe they are traces of an old clan? They walked carefully between the pines, where the light of the sun cut through the mist with golden rays. There were no birds to be seen, as if all nature was holding its breath. After an hour's walk, they came to a place where the ground was stirred and an old rune-covered shawl lay curled up among the ferns. It resembled those worn by the chiefs of the legends. Suddenly there was a crackling of branches. Everyone turned abruptly. A pair of shining eyes looked out from behind the trunk of an old oak tree. Not a hair on anyone's head twitched as the shadows in the mist began to move and something crunched under their feet like broken branches. Was it an animal, or had someone else been watching them since the expedition began? Do the runic shawl and the timber wolf have something in common? The Vikings stood quietly, trying not to breathe too loudly, while the mist grew thicker and thicker and the shadows seemed to grow closer to them....
