Watch from Granny Martha's Closet

Marta never liked Saturday mornings at her grandmother's. The old wooden staircase creaked even with the most careful step, and the kitchen always smelled of herbs whose names sounded like incantations. But that wasn't at all what made Martha prefer to stay at home every time. It was the huge, dark wardrobe standing under the window in the guest room. It had a large, polished door with a carved leaf pattern and two massive keys that her grandmother always carried with her apron.
One rainy afternoon, when Martha was looking for something to do, Grandma decided to pull some memorabilia out of the cupboard. - 'Why don't you take a look at these old things? - she suggested, pushing open the creaky door. Martha hesitated only for a moment. Inside she saw stiff dresses, colourful scarves and.... a small round watch on a thick gold chain.
She grabbed the watch. It was heavy as stone and cool to the touch. Suddenly she felt a slight tingling in her fingers. As she blew lightly on the glass, she heard a quiet voice:
- Phew, finally someone noticed me! How long can you wait to talk?
Marta jumped up and dropped her watch. However, it did not shatter, but only trembled slightly on the floor. The hands of the watch began to turn backwards and then stopped at one o'clock in the morning.
- What's your name? - asked the watch, looking around with its glassy eyes. Martha initially wanted to run away, but curiosity was stronger.
- Marta... And you?
- I'm Alfred. I haven't seen anyone for hundreds of years! - the watch buzzed with excitement. - Now that you're here, you can help me. You must know that there are other objects living in this cupboard that have a lot to say. But something unusual happens here at night....
Just then, the wardrobe door shook and a colourful hat fell from the shelf, flashing its shiny sequins at Martha. A quiet, rustling warning sounded throughout the room. Martha felt a cold shiver down her spine as Alfred whispered:
- This is the night when it all begins. If you want to find out, you must stay here with me until dawn....
